If you decide you want to take your pet on holiday with you, there are different rules that you’ll need to follow depending on where you are going, so start your research early. Things such as laws in different countries, pet passports, the airline’s pet policy, vaccinations, and pet insurance are all important considerations you’ll need to make.

If however, you’ll be leaving them at home, you’ll want to know they are being cared for whilst you’re away – That’s why choosing a cattery or kennel you’re happy with is important.

Many catteries and kennels will allow you to visit before making a booking. Visit a few different kennels in your local area. This way, you can make a booking with a kennels or cattery which you are happy with.

You’ll want to know your pet is staying somewhere which is safe. With this in mind, during your visit look out to see if there is any escape routes. Also look at the overall condition of the kennels/cattery – does it appear run down?

Consider how comfortable your family pet is going to be. Is there heating in the kennels? Does there appear to be enough room for your cat or dog to relax? If required, can you take along your own food?

You’ll want peace of mind that your cat or dog is going to be well looked after whilst you’re away, that’s why it’s important to ask questions. Before visiting a cattery or kennels think of any queries or concerns which you might want to enquire about.
